Heavy winds causes previously permitted burn to flare up, catching shed on fire.
3/13/2021
Around 12:30 am, firefighters from Williamsburg were dispatched to 18 Old Goshen Rd for a reported shed fire. Arriving units located a large pile of brush burning, along with the front corner of a large shed approximately 30 to 40 feet away. Firefighters quickly extinguished both the shed and the brush pile, keeping the damage to a minimum. It was determined that heavy winds caused some coals of a previously permitted burn from Thursday 3/11/2021 to flare up and send hot embers onto the shed. Fortunately, the heavy winds also kept the fire from spreading to the rest of the shed by blowing flames away from the shed and keeping the damage to only the front corner. Firefighters were on scene for approximately one hour checking for hot spots and making sure the shed and brush pile was fully extinguished. Northampton Fire and Highland Ambulance were dispatched at the time of the call as automatic mutual aid but were canceled.
