An outdoor electrical outlet shorted out and caused a close call for Haydenville Residents.
Williamsburg Engine 1, 2, and 4 along with Car 1 responded, just prior to 9 pm on 11/30/20202 to a Haydenville home for a reported odor of burning electrical inside the residence. An additional engine from Northampton along with Highland Ambulance was also dispatched as part of our automatic mutual aid.
Units arrived on scene and located a strong odor of burning electrical in the basement and first floor. An initial quick 360 check of the exterior did not reveal a cause. Units proceeded to check the interior with the assistance of Thermal Imagers and were once again unable to locate anything.
After multiple checks by Williamsburg and Northampton Firefighters of all electrical outlets and devices in the basement and first floor, firefighters again checked the exterior. This time firefighters located a shorted-out, exterior electrical outlet located near a hatchway to the basement. Due to its location near the hatchway, it contributed to the odor inside the residence. Firefighters were able to isolate the power to the outlet and allowed the occupants to reenter the house.
